How To Store Homemade Baby Food Safely

In the Fridge:

It’s recommended to store food in the fridge for up to 2 days. You should not feed baby directly from the container you’re storing it in and then put it back in the fridge, as bacteria from baby’s saliva can contaminate the food. It’s safer to portion smaller amounts to store and use individually.Babybols are airtight, stackable and ideal for storing different portions of homemade food and even shop bought.

When reheating chilled baby food, it should be piping hot all the way through, then allowed to cool before you feed baby. Never reheat food more than once and remember to throw out any leftovers.

In the Freezer:          

Freezing locks in vitamins and goodness, plus food can be stored for a longer period in the freezer.

Cooked veggie purees   6-8 months

Cooked fruit purees 6-8 months

Beef and lamb 4-6 months

Poultry  4-6 months

White fish (cod, haddock etc) 6-8 months

Oily fish (salmon, tuna etc)  3-4 months

Sliced bacon and sausages   2-3 months

Soups and sauces   3 months

Bread   2-3 months

 

For maximum nutrients and the best taste, use within 3 months. Babybols are freezer-safe so perfect for longer storage. Once the food has  completely cooled after cooking, freeze as soon as possible. To defrost, you can leave the baby food in the fridge for several hours, or you can heat it straight from the freezer using the microwaves defrost setting. Always make sure food is piping hot all the way through before allowing to cool down for baby to eat. Defrosted food should be consumed in 1-2 days (never refreeze meals.)
