Sun Safety Tips with Little Ones This Summer

Staying Safe in the Sun with littles ones

We all know how much our little ones love being in the great outdoors and with us all spending a lot more time at home and in our gardens with summer just around the corner it’s important to keep them safe from the sun.

2020 is the year of the staycation and the British weather can be changeable, we’ve recently had the most glorious few weeks of sunshine but although some days may not be as hot as being abroad it is still important to protect little ones from UVA and UVB rays.

That’s why we have developed our range of Anti-UV tents and umbrellas specifically designed alongside parents and experts to create products that give you and your family peace of mind. Our Anti-UV play tents provide protection up to 50+UPF and are made with lightweight breathable waterproof fabric to help keep your little ones protected and cool.

Here are our top tips for staying safe in the sun

Time

Avoid the time of day where the sun is at its strongest and hottest.

Skin

We all know how sensitive babies skin can be, our friends over at Child’s Farm have developed a range of Sensitive Suntan lotions that are perfect for babies skin right through childhood. Remember to reapply every twenty minutes and do a patch test first.

Clothing

As well as making sure that little one's skin is protected with a sun barrier cream, it’s best to keep them covered in loose-fitting clothing as well that will keep them cool rather than exposing delicate skin to the sun.

Hydrate

We all know how important it is to drink water and it’s vital that babies and children are well hydrated too. Babies are not recommended to have water until they are around 6 months old but should still be encouraged with breast milk or formula. For babies that are 6 months or older keep a sippy cup nearby so they can keep their thirst quenched and encourage them to take sips every twenty minutes

Shade

When in the garden keep your little ones in the shade, it’s much cooler for them and provides shelter from the sun’s brightness on those delicate eyes. Our range of pop-up Anti-UV Sun tents are designed to provide hours of fun whilst keeping them safe and cool.

Water

Water is a great way for little ones to cool themselves down on a hot sunny day, but remember that water can reflect the suns rays back onto the skin in a concentrated force. Make sure to keep little ones skin topped up with a waterproof sun barrier cream and place any water play items such as paddling pools, water play tables and play areas in the shade and not where there is full sun. The Babymoov Aquani paddling pool has a UV protected removable canopy to keep baby cool and protected from the sun.
